How to Increase your Chances of Getting Pregnant Naturally

It’s safe to say that getting pregnant quickly is a common, universal desire among couples who are trying to get pregnant.

I don’t think there has ever been a woman in the history of mankind that was actively TTC (trying to conceive) that bitched about getting pregnant too fast.

And if there is such a woman somewhere she is the unicorn of the TTC crew. Not the pretty white kind either, the weird half serpent, half horse, half Narwahl looking kind. *shudder*

Okay, back on topic!

I mean, I get. I do! That feeling of urgency, that NEED to see those double lines plus, you and your partner have waited this long to expand your family and you want to see that BFP asap, darn it!

Well, you might need a little help to do that, especially if you’re goal is to get pregnant fast and to increase your odds of getting pregnant naturally.

And when I say naturally I don’t mean by just going about the house doing the Humpty-dumpty, I mean without medical intervention like IUI or IVF. (Nothing wrong with IUI or IVF ladies, just not the ideal situation for most couples)

Since I am more on the crunchy (aka natural) side of life I tend to go for a chemical-free/pharmaceutical-free approach when I do stuff.

So naturally (see what I did there), I am going to suggest you look into some natural ways to increase your chances of getting pregnant with the help of some of my go-to products.

“What products can I use to help with getting pregnant quickly?”

In a way, I feel like that is a loaded question. There are no magic products on the market today that can guarantee a pregnancy.

Unfortunately, even IVF and IUI are not guaranteed and they are as close to magic as you can get.

That being said there are conception aids out there that can help you learn your body and in turn, can result in getting pregnant quickly. I myself use aids like vitamins, OPKs (ovulation predictor kits), and apps when we are trying to conceive. (I’ve detailed my personal, full TTC supply list at the end of this post)

Note: I did not include BBT Thermometers, BBT temping, or things like fertility tracking bracelets.

BBT tracking is a very loooong, drawn-out process that takes months of data to decipher (yuck!) Not really helpful to start doing today, and or with the goal of getting pregnant fast.

Tracking bracelets are a big investment that shouldn’t be considered until you’ve given OPKs and cycle mapping a try.

7 Natural Ways to Increase your Chances of Getting Pregnant

sign that says waiting for you for women who are wanting to get pregnant quickly

1 Invest In Your Health With A High-Quality Prenatal Vitamin

Unfortunately, not all vitamins are created equal, and selecting one is not always easy.

I ALWAYS recommend a whole-food-based prenatal over your generic (or even brand name) synthetically compounded vitamin. I’d rather take something made from food than a chemical made to “mimic vitamins and mineral”.

Yes, I am a vitamin snob. There’s no shame in my supplement game, except being lame. Ha! I rhymed.

But, seriously if you are interested in learning more about synthetic vs whole foods vitamins you can check out this post. Plus it talks about key vitamins that help support fertility and some that are vital to vegetarians and vegans.

Now, if you’re serious about getting pregnant quickly you needed to start taking a prenatal yesterday.

It is the best natural option to help boost fertility.

It is important to build up your body with essential nutrients like folic acid, iron, and calcium prior to pregnancy.

A vitamin deficiency can lead to birth defects and even loss of pregnancy.  The good thing is that taking a daily supplement is a simple fix and it’s an easy, effective way to up your nutrition.

For example, women with low folate (folic acid) levels are 50% more likely to have a miscarriage in early pregnancy than women who are stocked up on Folate… 50%!1George L, Mills JL, Johansson ALV, et al. Plasma Folate Levels and Risk of Spontaneous Abortion. JAMA. 2002;288(15):1867–1873. doi:10.1001/jama.288.15.1867

No one wants to get that BFP (big fat positive) and have to deal with the devastating physical and emotional effects of losing a pregnancy.

So.. take your vitamins and do everything you can to prevent a loss.

I recommend Mama Bird Prenatal Multi+ or Garden of Life mykind Organics Prenatal Vitamins

2 Get To you Know Your Cycle & Try a Fertility Tracking App

A women standing in the street looking down at her smart phone logging her cycle into her fertility app to make sure she increase her odds of getting pregnant naturally

Odds are you have some kind of period tracking app installed on your phone, and up until this point, you were most likely using it to make sure that Aunt Flo SHOWED UP.

Now, we want her to go away! BYE FELICIA!

I doubt I really need to say this, but just in case you didn’t know – Keeping track of your cycle is imperative and is a huge help if getting pregnant quickly is your top priority.

While your basic period tracking app gives you a glimpse into your fertile window and maybe a little flower over your likely ovulation day, you may want a little more insight now that you’re serious about getting pregnant.

You are gonna want to upgrade and head on over to the fertility apps.

Remember when there were no such things as smartphones – RAZOR for life (how I loved that phone)? Or high-speed internet, your parents yelling at you to stop hogging the phone line…. AOL even better AIM! My age is showing… le sigh.

My point is that even though I LOVED my Razor flip phone, and swore I’d never abanded it for those fancy smartphones… pfft.

I discovered the Galaxy (#samsunguser) and that’s all she wrote.

Well, that and my razor abandoned me by jumping out of my back pocket into a toilet – so technically it was her fault.

My point is that even if you love your current app if it’s not made specifically for women who are TTC (trying to conceive) then you need to move on.

I use/recommend Ovia and Glow. No, you don’t need two – but I like to have the backup app for comparative reasons.

Glow also has a built-in forum or community area that connects you with other women who are TTCing and beyond.

Using Fertility Apps With Irregular Periods

via GIPHY

If you have an irregular period do NOT rely on fertility apps alone to tell you when you’re going to ovulate.

I can not stress this enough!

These apps take an AVERAGE of your cycle lengths and then make an estimation ie 30ish days on when you will ovulate using that average. When you’re trying to get pregnant you can’t afford to rely on an average.

In fact, you will significantly lower your chances of conception. You need to make sure you are looking at all possible ovulation days within your cycle.

For example, if you have a cycle that varies from 28-31 days you can be looking at ovulating from CD 14-17. That’s a big window when the egg is only viable for 12-24 hours.

Which brings us to #3…

3 Craft a Baby Making Blueprint of Your Own

To Increase Your Chances of Getting Pregnant Naturally

Continuing on from #2!

If you have an irregular period you want to bust out the ol’pen and paper and breakdown your cycle.

You want to figure out your fertile window, your peak fertile days, estimated ovulation days, and make a plan on how you’re going to utilize this info to help you increase your odds of getting pregnant.

Once you sit down and do this you might be shocked to find out that you have been missing your ovulation entirely. I know I was off by several days (thank you App data!)

You can start crafting your BMB (baby making blueprint) by doing some research on the web. You’ll need to look into how the fertile window works and how to utilize it and then do some more research to figure out what days you should be DTD (doing the deed) and how ofter.

OR you can find everything you need here.

I mean who really wants to spend hours, possibly days researching this stuff when you can get instant access to EVERYTHING you need RIGHT NOW!

I have put together a 15-page packet that will walk you through an easy 4-step, no-brainer system that shows you how to map out your cycle.

The DIY Baby Making Blueprint lays out everything for you! Including a detailed “Do The Deed” guide that covers your whole cycle from CD1 to the vary last day to help you increase your odds of conception.

Plus, you’ll know EXACTLY when you should be having sex, and how often as well as when you should be testing with OPKs (ovulation predictor kit) and start counting DPO (days past ovulation).

If you’re not into DIY I offer one-on-one consultations and will craft your Baby Making Blueprint for you! All you have to do is give me your start dates for up to 6 months’ worth of cycles and within 24-48 hours you’ll be ready to go!

4 Ovulation Tests Take the Crown

A woman putting a crown on her head because she has discovered ovulation tests as a natural way to get pregnant

Knowing when you ovulate elevates a ton of guesswork when you’re trying to get pregnant and can help you get pregnant quickly! OPK test strips are a huge help and just one of many ways to help you increase your chances of getting pregnant naturally. Thank you science!

Think of ovulation tests as your green light to baby making fun.

As long as you take them at the right time of day you should be all set for success.

A positive ovulation test signals that it is time to do the deed and ensures that you take advantage of the narrow fertilization window.

When I say “narrow window” I mean that in all aspects. The sperm has to catch the egg and fertilize it within 12-36 hours after release to successfully conceive.

It is not necessary to spend a ton of money on ovulation tests. Digital tests are nice, but they can get pricey and if you are testing two times a day, like you should be then it really adds up.

I highly recommend going with some cheapie ovulation test strips.

Don’t let the term “cheapie” detour you. Even though these tests don’t cost an arm and a leg they are extremely accurate. More money doesn’t always = better product.

Here’s what I recommend if you’re not fully comfortable with using just the dipstick test strips.

Invest in one Clearblue Digital Ovulation Test, 20 Pack and use them ONLY when you’ve gotten a positive on a dipstick ovulation test to confirm.

Or when you’re really unsure of a result and know you should be ovulating within a day or two.

PS. Don’t forget the disposable cups for your dipstick ovulation test strips.

5 Pregnancy Test(s) A TTCers Obsession

via GIPHY

Ah, the gatekeeper, the tormentor, the freniem, and the bane of many trying to conceive couples.

I know I had a love-hate relationship with them!

I was what you would call a POASA (pee on a stick addict). I am talking 3+ tests a day once I entered into my TWW (two-week wait) and even starting at like 2 DPO (days past ovulation) I was testing!

I have tried EVERY test on the market and always go back to Clinical Guard.

The same principle applies here as with the ovulation test strips, do NOT spend a ton of money on pregnancy tests.

Pregnancy test strips are just as accurate as the expensive brands and they will cost you way less.

How much less? I am talking about under a QUARTER for 1, 50 tests for under $13 bucks.

I don’t know about you, but I can live with spending $1 a day on tests compared to $20+ dollars on the expensive brands. Take all that extra money you’re saving and start a baby jar for diapers, wipes and fun stuff.

If you feel the need to have a backup test go ahead and get a digital pregnancy test, but do not use it until you get a line on your dipstick pregnancy test strip to confirm that you are indeed seeing that beautiful second line.

6 Sperm-Friendly Fertility Lube

Natural “Fertile” CM (cervical mucus) is an important player in the baby making game.

It helps assist the sperm on its journey to meet the egg. (Side note: if you notice clear, stretchy egg white consistency CM every month than that is your fertile CM and you’re getting ready to ovulate)

If you tend to be dry and or have very little CM than a lube is the next best option. Regular drugstore lube such as KY and Astroglide can inhibit sperm mobility and or kill sperm.

A study conducted in 2014 by the ASRM found that:

Sesame oil and synthetic coital lubricants impaired sperm motility and may hamper fertility. Pre-Seed and canola, mustard, and baby oils showed no deleterious effect and may be considered sperm-friendly coital lubricants. (1)

Out of ASRM’s list of sperm-friendly lubes Pre-Seed is definitely more to my taste.

Pre-Seed Personal Lubricant is great because it was designed to mimic fertile CM, not just help with dryness. It is also glycerin-free which allows sperm to swim to the egg and in turn, is great for getting pregnant quickly.

7 Fertility Aids For Men That Help Increase Your Chances of Getting Pregnant

One thing that annoys the crap out of me when couples are TTC is that the man often gets left out.

It seems like everything falls on the woman… take the vitamins, shoot the lube, “put the right foot over the left shoulder, take the left big toe and touch your nose while chanting “I will get pregnant, I will get pregnant” over and over and hold a crystal ball over your uterus ….

What does he do? He just gets to go about his business and enjoy a nice orgasm and call it a day.

Which is total BS if you ask me.

It’s like the sole responsibility of conception is the womans and another person is not even involved.

To be fair there are more fertility aids and products on the market for women than men but just like the woman, the man can do a couple of things.

Male Fertility Supplements To Help Sperm Count & Motility

A Man’s nutritional and dietary habits are just as vital to conception success as the womans.

Ensuring your man is taking a supplement can boost his sperm count and increase his motility and in return help with getting pregnant quickly. A poor diet can cause issues with sperm count, motility and may even cause damage to the sperms DNA.(2

There are also other natural supplements like Omega 3, Calcium, Vitamin D, and even specific products that target just Sperm Count and Sperm Motility.

To find out more about which vitamins affect male fertility and what supplements help fight infertility in men you can go here.

If you think it’s not that it big of a deal to have a deficiency and or it won’t really affect anything a simple Vitamin D deficiency (Which by the way most of Americans are deficient in) can make a man infertile and can cause low semen quality. 2Alzoubi A, Mahdi H, Al Bashir S, et al. NORMALIZATION OF SERUM VITAMIN D IMPROVES SEMEN MOTILITY PARAMETERS IN PATIENTS WITH IDIOPATHIC MALE INFERTILITY. Acta Endocrinol (Buchar). 2017;13(2):180-187. doi:10.4183/aeb.2017.180

Have him take an at Home Sperm Test to check Fertility

No man wants to talk sperm count and for some, the idea of going to a doctor is too much to handle not to mention expensive. There are two products that I recommend for private home use to tackle this delicate subject.

    1. SpermCheck Fertility Home Sperm Test – It looks like a pregnancy test as in it has a control line and a test line. It is very basic, but it can offer great peace of mind. Two lines indicated a normal sperm count at above 20 million sperm per milliliter of semen. One line indicates that the sperm count is low, below 20 million sperm per milliliter of semen. If your partner gets a low result it may be time to consult a doctor.

    1. At Home Male Fertility Testing System by Trak – I’ve come across this system a couple of times now and find it interesting. I do not have any direct experience with it but, from my research, it seems like a great option for sperm count testing. You get 4 tests per kit and they claim that it’s as accurate as a lab test. It is FDA cleared and validated against the gold standard lab method. FSA / HSA eligible.

Fertility Books For Men

If you’ve been trying to conceive your baby for a while now and have been dealing with issues with getting pregnant quickly, it may be putting stress on your home life.

As a woman, it is easy to get caught up in the journey and sometimes we end up in a bad place. (raises hand1)

Even the most empathic partner may have a hard time understanding how much of an emotional toll TTCing takes on us.

I remember my husband looking at me like I was insane quite a few times as I became consumed with getting pregnant. (You can read my full TTC story here.)

He wasn’t exactly sure how to “deal” with me and wasn’t sure how to tell him what I needed from him. All I knew is that I NEEDED a baby.

There are two infertility books directed towards Men that I love: How to Make Love to a Plastic Cup: A Guy’s Guide to the World of Infertility and What He Can Expect When She’s Not Expecting: How to Support Your Wife, Save Your Marriage, and Conquer Infertility!. Not only are they for Men but they are written by men that have gone through infertility issues and have first-hand experience.

The Bottom Line

Do you really need a TTC Arsenal to get pregnant naturally?

Absolutely not.

While OPKs (ovulation predictor kits), Pre-Seed, and apps are great tools that make getting pregnant quickly easier, they are not necessary.

All you need is your partner. (The only thing that I will say is an absolute necessity is a prenatal vitamin, even if it’s not whole food-based.)

Please note that all of the products I recommend have been hand-picked by me and come from 10 years of trial and error.

I feel confident in their accuracy and effectiveness.

I also feel that it is important to offer different options as what works for me, or a particular client of mine may not work for you. I do not believe any product is “one-size fits all”.

That being said I do have my personal favorites.

“What exactly would you buy if you were trying to conceive?”

Is a question I get a lot and so I’ve decided to include a simple list of my personal favorites and include exactly what my Amazon shopping cart would be filled with if I was getting ready to TTC #4.

Garden Of Life Organic Prenatal
Garden of Life Prenatal Probiotic for Women
Garden of Life Ultra Pure Prenatal EPA/DHA Omega 3 Fish Oil
Pre-Seed Personal Lubricant
Clinical Guard Ovulation Tests – 50 Pack
Clinical Guard Pregnancy Tests – 50 Pack
First Response Early Result Pregnancy Test, 3 Count
Disposable Cups – 200

Non- Amazon Stuff:

Dollar Tree Pregnancy Test – 5 (I’ve used both of their brands)
First Signal One-Step Pregnancy Test -5 (Walmart cost $0.89 in-store)

Yes, I really buy all these pregnancy tests. Pee on a stick addict – told ya. Even after I get my BFP (big fat positive) I like to test to watch line progression, so yes they all get used.

What products do you love or hate? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
